What health insurance policies does AHM offer?

AHM offers a range of private health insurance policies for singles, couples, families and single parents. Members can choose from nine levels of hospital-only cover, seven extras-only packages, or five combined hospital and extras policies.

What hospital cover options does AHM offer?

AHM private hospital cover lets you choose from nine different levels of hospital-only cover. AHM hospital cover can help you pay for services you receive if you’re admitted to hospital and treated as a private patient.

  • AHM Starter Basic: AHM promotes their Starter Basic hospital cover as ‘just for accidents, just in case’. It pays restricted benefits towards rehabilitation, hospital psychiatric services and palliative care and excludes most other hospital services.
  • AHM Essentials Basic Plus: This policy is a step up from AHM’s accident-only Starter Basic cover and pays benefits towards hospital essentials including:
    • Tonsils, adenoids and grommets
    • Joint reconstructions
    • Hernia and appendix
    • Miscarriage and termination of pregnancy
    • Dental surgery
  • AHM Starter Bronze: Starter Bronze is AHM’s best-selling hospital cover for singles. It includes all medical services covered by Essentials Basic Plus cover, plus:
    • Brain and nervous system

What extras cover does AHM offer?

AHM has seven options for extras cover, which helps with the cost of health care and therapies that Medicare doesn’t cover. AHM’s entry-level extras policy, Black 50 Saver, gives members 50% back up to annual limits for basic services, while their Super Extras cover includes a broad range of extras and unlimited routine dental.

  • AHM Black 50 Saver: This budget-friendly extras policy offers 50% back on included extras, up to your annual limit. It covers:

Does AHM cover ambulance trips?

More than 3 million Australians are assessed, treated or transported by ambulance services every year. That’s why AHM includes ambulance cover with every private health insurance policy after a one-day waiting period.

Members with hospital or hospital and extras cover are covered for medically necessary ambulance, which helps with the bill for ambulance fees when you medically need to be transported to the nearest hospital.

AHM members with an extras-only product receive emergency ambulance cover, which is more limited than medically necessary ambulance cover.

How does AHM’s No Gap Dental work?

While visiting the dentist isn’t at the top of many people’s to-do lists, leaving it too long between check-ups can mean little dental problems turn into big and expensive issues. That’s why AHM offers members up to two dental check-ups each financial year with no out of pocket cost for eligible products at selected dentists, subject to annual limits.

Members claiming No Gap Dental receive an average benefit of around $160 per visit, representing attractive savings for those who value regular dental check-ups.

No Gap Dental includes periodic and comprehensive examinations, a clean and polish or scale and clean, and fluoride treatment. It doesn’t include x-rays, tooth extractions or fillings – but AHM still pays benefits towards these services under routine dental cover as part of an extras policy.

What is AHM’s Youth Discount?

AHM offers a Youth Discount to help make private health insurance more affordable for young adults. If you’re aged 18-29 and a principal member or partner, you can get a discount on your AHM hospital cover or the hospital part of a hospital and extras health insurance package. If you keep your hospital cover, the Youth Discount will continue to apply until you turn 41.

  • Goodlife Health Clubs: AHM members get a free 5-day trial for themselves and a friend before joining and 15% off selected new memberships at more than 85 Goodlife clubs nationally. How can AHM members make a claim on their policy?

AHM members have several options when lodging a private health insurance claim:

  • At a recognised provider: Present your AHM member card after your appointment, and the claim benefit will be processed on the spot if the health care provider has a HICAPS machine.
  • Online: Log into your account at ahm.com.au and go to ‘make a claim’. Select the service you want to claim for from the list and click ‘start claim’. From here, you’ll enter the provider name or number, date of the service, item number and the amount paid. You may need to upload a copy of your receipt with your claim. Any benefits will be paid into the nominated bank account in 2-5 business days.
  • Using the AHM app: Log into the AHM mobile app and go to the ‘claims’ tab. Select ‘start claim’ and enter the requested details. Any benefits will be paid into the nominated bank account in 2-5 business days.
  • Email: Download a claim form from ahm.com.au and email your completed form and receipts to info@ahm.com.au with your name and member number in the subject line.

Yes. AHM is part of the Medibank group, so AHM members can rest easy knowing they’re backed by one of Australia’s largest health insurers. Medibank Private bought AHM in 2009.
